Democrasexy Book Club #1 - “Controlling Women: What We Must Do NOW to Save Reproductive Freedom”

The book cover for "Controlling Women: What we must do now to save reproductive freedom" laid on top of a photo of co-author Kathryn Kolbert. Links to a live Q&A with her recorded as part of the Democrasexy Book Club.

Kathryn Kolbert helped secure Roe v Wade and then saved our constitutional right to abortion when she argued the Planned Parenthood v Casey Supreme Court case in 1992.

Recently she got up on the TED Women stage to give us her expert opinion on what will happen to abortion rights in the hands of the current Supreme Court.

I can still hear the collective gasp in the room when she said, “The federal right to abortion will be gone within the year.”

She did not stutter.

She did not say “maybe.”

She said, “Give up the idea that the courts will save us. The courts are done.”

Luckily there is a very! handy! blueprint Kathryn Kolbert and Julie F. Kay laid out for us in their book “Controlling Women: What We Must Do Now to Save Reproductive Freedom.

For this book club, we will discuss the path laid out in this book as well as brainstorm other ideas, imagine new narratives, and figure out how to bring in others. PLUS! Kathryn will join us LIVE for a brief interview at the top of the event, so you don’t want to be late. (The Zoom will be recorded for anyone who is not able to attend live.)

This is not a moment for despair. It is a moment for radical hope supported by creative and sustained action.

Roe is dead. What will we birth in its place?
