Some examples of my work.

Events & speaking.

Angel Flores, a trans Latina dressed in a white cropped tank, jeans, and a flannel stands with Becky Bullard in a rainbow sequined dress and white sequined fanny pack, and Alicia Roth Weigel gives a sassy look in an orange bobbed wig at Y'allentines

I love to throw a party with a purpose. When folks show up to one of my events they know they’re going to feel all the feels, be delighted by the details, and walk away with the information and inspiration they need to take action on issues they care about.

Social media content.

I create social media content that enlightens, entertains, and sometimes infuriates, like my “Dates With Politicians” TikTok series. This video of my “date” with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was viewed more than 10,000 times across social media channels and I heard from so many Texans (of both major parties!) who shared it with their friends because it was such a fun way of learning facts about our elected officials.

My experience as an election judge and a precinct chair has given me a window into the challenges that voters face, the questions they feel too embarrassed to ask, and the type of information they’re eager to pass on to others. It’s why my “Voting Tips for Texans” Instagram carousel has been shared more than 4,600 times.

Creative organizing.

Several people sit around a table in a dim environment with candles lit. They are filling out a worksheet with a pentacle on it.

Leading up to the 2022 election, Democrasexy teamed up with Andrew Dinwiddie (formerly of New Georgia Project) and the Center for Artistic Activism’s Unstoppable Voters program to increase Texas voter turnout using witchcraft.

The Texorcism ritual was a mystical relational organizing program that incorporated connection with ancestors, reliance on a “coven” of support for doing voter outreach, and creation of a symbolic pentacle of protection for potential voters in our audience’s circle of influence. We followed up this empowering ritual with practical tips for turning folks out to vote.

100% of survey respondents who did the ritual said they’d do it again, and on average they each reported influencing seven folks in their lives to go vote.

Podcasting.

At the previous creative civic engagement company I co-founded, Rouser, we launched The Rabble Texas politics podcast in January 2019. My two co-hosts and I were “learning in public” how to do politics in Texas: we documented our journey as we figured out how to testify in public hearings at the Texas State Capitol, unpacked what all the offices on our ballot actually do, educated listeners on the week’s state political news via silly games like “political f*ck, marry, kill,” interviewed heroes like Wendy Davis (who announced her Congressional campaign on our podcast!), and even put out an episode with an action item every single day for the 45 days leading up to the 2020 election.

As Chief Communications Officer at Rouser I was our marketing strategist and steward of the brand identity, as well as the lead copywriter and keeper of the narrative.

The Rabble has been downloaded 72,000+ times, and Austin Chronicle readers voted The Rabble a top-3 finalist for “Best Local Podcast.” We were featured in Austin Woman Magazine and in a Richard Linklater-produced documentary called “The Pushback.” In 2019 Rouser was named “Organization of the Year” by the Travis County Democratic Party, and in 2020 we won a “Creative Initiative Award” from Women Communicators of Austin.

Writing.

I do most of my long-form writing on my Democrasexy Substack newsletter these days, but I’ve also written for Tribeza Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, Austinist (RIP) and more.

I’ve created detailed-yet-approachable ballot guides used by thousands of voters in every Texas statewide and local Travis County election since 2018.

My pithy, GIF-happy emails for The Rabble podcast consistently saw a 50% higher open-rate than the industry average for political emails, and Democrasexy’s newsletter subscribers engage at a 2.5x higher rate than the industry standard.

Before politics, I spent my career in advertising as a brand strategist and copywriter. You can see some work samples from my ad days here.
