Have you ever wished you saw yourself better reflected in political party leadership?

GOOD NEWS! The process to decide party platforms, elect party leaders, and choose delegates for the national convention is starting NOW, and YOU are invited to participate!

There are three levels of political party convention: county, state, and national. The people making the decisions for the party are whoever shows up. Why not you??

Here are some things that happen at political party conventions:

  • Electing delegates. If you want to become a delegate at the national convention, where alllllllll the delegates from every state get together to vote on the party’s nominee and other party business, that process starts at your local county convention on March 23. Register to attend your county convention and express interest in going on to become a delegate at the state convention (June 6-8 in El Paso) here: https://bit.ly/24conventionreg State delegates then vote amongst themselves to decide who will represent Texas as national delegates August 19-22 in Chicago.

  • Electing party leadership. At the State Convention we elect State Democratic Executive Committee members and Democratic National Committee members — these are the folks who guide party decisions at the state and national level.

  • Caucus meetings. Are you LGBTQIA+? Or Black? Or care about cannabis? Pro-choice? An environmentalist? There are close to 30 caucuses you can choose to be involved with where you can meet other like-minded folks to discuss policy priorities related to what you care about.

  • Passing resolutions and voting on the party platform. This is how the party communicates its values and priorities. Have a resolution you’d like to get passed? Start that process here: https://bit.ly/24resolutions

  • Making connections and learning stuff you can’t anywhere else. Allllllll the movers and shakers of party politics show up to the conventions. This is where you can build relationships with decision-makers and begin to become a decision-maker yourself. In a state as big as Texas, its rare to be in a room with so many influential folks from every corner of the state.
